Men do not like to toil over their hair. Most prefer to wash-and-go. Which is practical and smart.
But many men don’t take the time to find a cut or style that suits them. And worse, they refuse to use any product. (Product is not for sissies, guys!)
Below are a few broad-stroke tips for men so you can still wash-and-go…but look good while doing it!
How long should you wait between haircuts?
This is a tough one because there’s no hard-and-fast rule. It depends on your hair growth and the style you’re maintaining.
In general, hair grows at a rate of about 1/2 inch per month. But many factors can affect hair growth, such as age, poor health and even stress levels (which can increase hair loss–nobody wants that).
The cut matters when it comes to maintenance as well. A crew or buzz cut more upkeep than a tousled, beach-head look.
What hair product should men use?
Where to begin? This also depends on the haircut, the hair type and the result you want. But let’s start with this salient point: most men could stand to use more hair product! Without it, hair can look too unkempt and unfocused…and aren’t we tired of that look?
Men are often intimidated by products. Pomade, gel, wax, mousse, paste, clay….which one? Your best bet is to start with a lighter product and go heavier as you see fit. Lighter products include creme, gel or mousse (just a dollop) applied to wet hair, then style as usual.
For coarser hair, you may be ready to start with a mud or clay styling product. But start off small–these products can be add a lot of weight to your hair.
Should men blow dry their hair?
Of course! Unless you like to walk around with wet hair. Blow drying adds volume and style, even if you’re not an expert.
Quick hair drying method for men:
Wait until your hair is almost dry. Turn your head upside-down and blow dry downwards, using your fingers as a comb. Then flip your head up. Start from the crown of your head, pulling sections and blow drying at the roots, gently and fairly quickly. The end result will be a tousled look that looks styled and not messy.
Guys, hopefully this blog post was as quick-and-easy as you want your hair to be. Remember: it doesn’t take a lot of effort to look good. But no effort, well…it shows!
